Allegory is a literary device that is used to show hidden meanings through events, imagery, and figures. The title of Pygmalion itself is a allegory, because it refers to the ancient Greek myth about a famous sculptor named Pygmalion who stayed single because he couldn't find any women that he considered 'good'. He then sculpted a statue that was so perfect that he fell in love with his own art. Higgins represents Pygmalion and Eliza the Statue, because he changes her into the 'perfect' woman.
