Dramatic Irony is irony that is apparent to the audience by the dialogue in a situation, but not understood by the characters. Dramatic Irony is used in Pygmalion when the reader has to find out if Eliza will be discovered as a fraud by the dinner party when a language specialist is present there. Suspense is created when the language specialist, Nepommuck, calls Eliza a fraud and 'not English'. However, he is not accusing her of being low class, but actually of Hungarian royalty. This is ironic because the audience knows what Eliza really is, but Nepommuck is completely off mark about her true identity.
